Q: How much do you charge to make a budget?
A: That depends entirely on what’s in your script. The more complex and complicated your script is, the more it costs to budget because those things take more time to break down cost-wise. Send me your script, and I can give you a more specific answer!
Q: I’m shooting a micro / low budget film, can I afford your services?
A: Yes! I’m more than happy to provide discounts for lower budget films. Budgeting is a crucial part of the filmmaking process, and I don’t want financial limitations to prevent people from being able to get one.
Q: I can make a budget on my own, why should I pay you to do it?
A: If you have that knowledge already, you’re right! You shouldn’t pay me (or anyone else) to do that for you. But for those of us who don’t have that skillset, it’s the starting point upon which everything in pre-production is based. Shooting a movie without a proper budget (and schedule) is like building a house without a blueprint — sure, you might get some stuff right, but there are far too many variables to wing it, especially when spending hundreds of thousands (or millions) of dollars.
Q: Ok, I’ll bite — how exactly does the process work?
A: The first step is to send me your script. Once I read the script, I’ll give you an estimated budget range for your film (i.e. $500k-$1M). If you decide not to move forward, no worries! You owe me nothing.
If you want me to budget your film, once we agree on a fee, I’ll break down your script into its elements (actors, locations, set dressing, wardrobe, stunts, etc). Then I will convert those elements into a schedule, and develop your budget based on that. This process typically takes 1-2 weeks — I can do a “rush order”, but anything less than a few days is not a realistic timeline unless your script is VERY minimal and contained.
Once I deliver the budget, we’ll review it via email, Zoom, phone, or however you prefer. If you need any changes beyond that, just let me know! However, anything beyond minor tweaks may require a separate fee (i.e. I can’t “revise” your $50k film to a $2.5M one at no additional charge :P)
Q: Can you review a budget someone else made for my film?
A: Sure! Please reach out so we can discuss the specifics.
Q: Do you have an IMDb?
Q: What’s the biggest movie you’ve worked on?
A: I was the LA Unit Production Manager for Alejandro González Iñárritu’s (Birdman, The Revenant) Netflix film, Bardo.
Q: Can I contact you directly if I have any questions?
A: Of course! Shoot me an email me at budgetmymovie@gmail.com.
